Coolant for the Audi A1

The Audi A1 is with its almost 4 meters the shortest Audi and enjoys a high demand. In total, the A1 was built in four different series, which sometimes require different coolants. In the following course, we will show you which coolant is needed for your Audi A1, what alternatives are available and what price you should expect.

Which coolant for the Audi A1?

A look at the tables below shows that a total of two different coolants are possible for the Audi A1 series. More precisely, either a G12++ or G12evo coolant is required. The abbreviations stand for the respective VW approvals VW TL 774 G (G12++) and TL-774 L (G12evo).

The G12evo is currently the most current standard of all VW coolants. The G12++ was already introduced in 2005 and was replaced in 2012 by the. Since 2018, in turn, the aforementioned G12evo has replaced the VW G13 coolant. The special feature here is that they can be mixed three standards mentioned.

G12++ (TL 774 G) coolant

Two series of the Audi A1 were filled from the factory with the original VW coolant G12++ with the VW TL 774 G approval. Since the G12++ is no longer produced by VW, when buying a coolant for the Audi A1, you can only fall back on the latest VW G12evo or other manufacturers who continue to produce coolants with the G12++ standard.

An important piece of information here is that the colors of the coolant do not indicate which standard it contains. Thus, manufacturers can choose different color compositions for their G12++ coolant.

VW Original: G12evo

The VW G12 evo coolant replaced the VW G13 as the newest coolant standard starting in 2019. The coolant, which is also purple, can be mixed with the G13 as well as the G12 coolants. As with its predecessors, you can rely on an alternative product from Glysantin for the G12evo – the Glysantin G65. However, that’s it for the alternatives at the moment. However, other manufacturers will surely follow with suitable coolants in the near future.

VW G12 evo, for example, was also filled in all Golf 8 versions. In the Audi A1, it is used in the models shown in the table.

G12++ coolant / antifreeze alternatives

In the following we recommend alternative G12++ coolants for your Audi A1. Here the focus is on the fact that the coolants also have the official release (G12++ = TL-774 G) from VW. The approval means that VW confirms that this coolant may be used for your Audi A1.

Check coolant on Audi A1

Up to what temperature does the current coolant protect and how does the coolant protection change when new coolant is added? You can easily determine this with the help of a coolant tester. In this way, you can find out in just a few steps up to which minus temperature the radiator antifreeze is effective. If the water or concentrate content is too high, the temperature protection will change immediately. Therefore, you should check this when mixing.
