The original BMW coolant / antifreeze

The German car manufacturer BMW has made things particularly easy for itself and its car owners when it comes to coolant. In contrast to other manufacturers, which only recommend a coolant with or without silicate and possibly with an OAT or HOAT technology, BMW relies on a very simple solution – the uniform OEM BMW coolant.

Whether Mini Cooper, 1 Series, 3 Series or Coupe, BMW recommends one and the same concentrate for all its models (with the exception of the R56 Diesel).

The original coolant is available to the end customer in the 1.5 liter bottle as a concentrate. The color of the original is blue-green. It is mixed with (distilled) water in a ratio of 1:1 and provides optimum frost protection at temperatures as low as -40 degrees. Of course, a higher proportion of water can also be added. With a water content of 60%, frost protection would start at up to about -20 degrees.

Buy BMW coolant

If you are looking for original BWM coolant, there are several places to go. In addition to car dealerships and specialist workshops, online stores also offer the concentrate. The latter also offers the opportunity to look around for many alternatives.

Of course, the best price for BMW coolant can be found on the Internet. For as little as €9 or €10 (may vary seasonally), an end customer can already get the 1.5 liter bottle in concentrate on Amazon and other platforms. To be on the safe side, the original part number on the back of the bottle can be matched. This should always be identical.

In addition, you should pay attention to the filling date or expiration date. This data is stored on the back of the BMW coolant, in the form of a printed code. In general, the BMW coolant can be used for about 4 years after filling. If the concentrate is fed into the cooling system after this period, additives and individual additives may already have settled. The effect is therefore no longer guaranteed and increased wear occurs.

Alternatives to the BMW antifreeze

Real alternatives to the original BMW concentrate are the Ravenol coolants or Glysantin coolants from the BASF Group. The manufacturer Glysantin prescribes the Glysantin G48 coolant for all BMW models from 1975 onwards (see: Glysantin product finder). The G48 is one of the BASF company’s best-selling products and is in the same price league on the Internet as the original product. Here, too, Amazon offers a wide selection. Preferably, the Glysantin G48 is available in pure concentrate in the 1.5 liter bottle. It is mixed in a ratio of 1:1. The color corresponds to that of the BMW coolant.

The manufacturer Ravenol offers two different coolants for BMW. As with Glysantin, the model around Mini Cooper, 1 Series, 3 Series or Coupe is not important, only the year of manufacture. The type of fuel is also not relevant. All BMW models from 1975 to 2006 should use Ravenol Protect C11. All BMW’s from 2007 onwards, on the other hand, should use the Ravenol Protect MB 325.0. At first, the MB 325.0 release may be confusing, as this is the coolant release for Mercedes Benz coolant. However, Ravenol offers a concentrate for Mercedes and BMW vehicles at the same time with this product.

The Ravenol coolant is also available in the 1.5 liter bottle. In addition, the containers around 5 liters and 20 liters are also available. The big advantage with the Ravenol coolants is the variant as concentrate and premix. The premix is already mixed and can be filled directly into the cooling system. The concentrate is mixed as usual with water in a 1:1 ratio.
