We will clarify these questions in the following course, so that you always buy the right coolant for your Audi A3 and prevent the wrong products from causing corrosion in the cooling system. At the very bottom you will also find frequently asked questions about coolant for the Audi A3.

The right coolant and the right quantity

The individual Audi A3 models and which coolant they require according to the manual are listed below. At the same time, the quantities are also stored in case the entire coolant should be drained and refilled. When filling up the coolant, it is essential to ensure that a coolant with the stored standard is used. Different standards cannot simply always be mixed together.

Overall, the coolants G12+ (approval: VW TL-774 F), G12++ (approval: VW TL-774 G) and VW G13 (approval: VW TL-774 J) are recommended for the Audi A3.

The original VW coolant

As already mentioned, different VW standards are used in the Audi A3 models. The G12 coolant G12+ and G12++ belong to the older standards. They were replaced by the G13 coolant in 2012, which in turn has been replaced by the G12evo as the latest standard since 2018.

Currently, only the new G12evo is still being manufactured by VW. This is backwards compatible and can therefore be used if a G12+, G12++ or G13 coolant is recommended in your vehicle manual. You will receive the latest VW standard already in a ready premixed filling and can therefore fill it directly without dilution with water.

If you still want to use the standards that VW also used in the respective models from the factory, you can fall back on alternatives from other manufacturers. These continue to offer coolants according to the formulations or standards of the G12+, G12++ and G13 coolants.

The alternatives: Ravenol, Liqui Moly and Glysantin.

Other manufacturers of coolants continue to produce the coolants according to the old VW standards. In addition to the manufacturers listed here, there are of course others. However, due to their proven quality, we have deliberately selected these three manufacturers to show you good alternatives.

Ravenol coolant for Audi A3

To find the right Ravenol coolant for the Audi A3, the (online) Ravenol product catalog will help. Regardless of the model or engine, Ravenol shows a very simple way to find the right concentrate. All you need to know is the year of manufacture of your car. From 1981 to the present, all Audis use four different coolants. Since the Audi A3 was not built until 1996, the choice narrows down to 3 different radiator antifreeze concentrates.

You have the year of manufacture of your Audi at hand? Then you can easily find the right Ravenol coolant for your A3:

  • Year of construction 1996 – 2008: Ravenol OTC Protect C12+
  • Year 2007 – today: Ravenol HTC Protect MB 325.0
  • Year 2008 – today: Ravenol LGC Protect C13

What stands out in this overview? Starting from 2007 the Ravenol HTC can be used, which shows the VW TL 774-C (corresponds to VW/Audi G11) coolant release. From 2008 on, the Ravenol LGC is recommended, which indicates the VW/Audi G13 standard with the C13. Ultimately, the VW/Audi G13 coolant is the further development of the G11, G12+ and G12++ coolant concentrates. Consequently, the Ravenol LGC could also be used on all models.

Attention: The Ravenol LGC Protect C13 must not be mixed with a coolant that complies with the G11 (VW TL-774-C) standard.

Glysantin coolant for Audi A3

To find the right Audi A3 coolant from Glysantin, the Glysantin product finder helps. Depending on the year of manufacture, the right coolant concentrate can be found quickly. This listing for all Audi models can be found below:

  • Year of manufacture 1981 – 1996: Glysantin G48 (corresponds to VW/Audi G11)
  • My. 1996 – 07/2007: Glysantin G30 (corresponds to VW/Audi G12+)
  • Year 08/2007 – today: Glysantin G40 (corresponds to VW/Audi G12++)

Is there also a suitable LIQUI MOLY coolant?

The German manufacturer has also been offering coolant for the car for a short time. Unlike Glysantin and Ravenol, Liqui Moly does not currently offer a direct finder. However, with reference to the table below, you can quickly find a Liqui Moly coolant for the Audi A3.

The G12+ is the Liqui Moly antifreeze KFS G12+, which corresponds to the VW/Audi TL-774 F standard. If the Audi A3 requires a coolant with the TL-774 G standard, the Liqui Moly radiator antifreeze KFS 12++ would be just right.

Frequently asked questions

Audi A3 coolant refill, with which concentrate?

This question was raised at the beginning of the page. Overall, attention should be paid to what standard the coolant for the car must meet. Then one checks the various concentrates whether they meet this standard. And already you have the right coolant to refill. In the upper part of the page you can quickly and easily find the product finders of Ravenol, Glysantin and Liqui Moly. Alternatively, you can of course use the original Audi coolant concentrate, which is usually more expensive than its alternatives. Since they all have to meet the respective standard, they are even equivalent in quality.

Audi A3 coolant quantity?

To answer this very question as much as possible, we have provided you with a table of all Audi models, as well as the amount of coolant they require. However, this is the coolant in the mixture. That is the concentrate mixed with water. So simply find your Audi A3 in the table and find out not only what amount of coolant it needs, but also what Audi standard. Besides the right amount, you should of course always choose the right concentrate.

Check Audi A3 coolant

A question that can be answered in many directions. On the one hand, the coolant in your Audi A3 can be easily checked at the coolant reservoir. For this purpose, there is a marking where the minimum and maximum fill level is located. In newer Audi A3 models, the coolant level is also measured electronically. A warning signal lights up to inform you of the missing level. If you find that you have too little coolant in the cooling system, you can find the right coolant for your Audi A3 here.
